Shen-Hammer Pulse System

This specialized, evolving form of pulse taking is the result of Leon Hammer’s refinement of the pulse system which he inherited through his 28 year tutelage of Dr. John H.F. Shen. With 80 qualities, 6 Principal positions, 22 Complementary positions, and 6 Depths it offers an extraordinary amount of information about a person’s past, present, and future health. So I am not only counting the rate and monitoring the rhythm, I also discern between the subtle qualities that are palpated at each position and depth.

This is a sophisticated means of understanding the person as a whole and of detecting deviations from health. I am able to access and assess strengths and weaknesses, mental/emotional states, the effects of lifestyle and environment, the qi, blood, yin/yang, and function of the organs themselves as well as their contribution to the body as a whole. This system is yet another diagnostic tool that provides me with sound clinical guidance even in the most complex conditions, and assists me in discovering underlying issues that are contributing to your condition, which helps me in prioritizing treatment strategies.

This particular methodology takes years of instruction and hands on practice to learn and implement. Our lineage can be traced back directly over 600 years to the Ding family in the Menghe region of China. Dr. Hammer has continued to teach and refine this system and its’ diagnostic revelations over the last 30+ years.   My study of this system began in 2006, as it is a cornerstone of the curriculum at Dragon Rises College. I am now part of a select group of individuals who continue advanced studies directly with Dr. Hammer (I am currently the Intensive Coordinator for Dragon Rises Seminars with Dr. Hammer in Florida), and am on track for becoming one of the few practitioners worldwide (currently only 14) certified to teach this system.
